About Frontiersin
Science belongs to everyone
Frontiersin was founded on a simple premise: research funded for the public good should be available to everyone. We operate an independent, community-governed publishing infrastructure where every article is peer reviewed by domain experts, published under an open licence and preserved for the long term.
Our mission
Accelerating discovery through open, trustworthy publishing
Frontiersin exists to make the outcomes of research openly available as quickly as rigour allows. We believe that knowledge locked behind paywalls slows progress, and that researchers themselves are best placed to steward the scholarly record.
Our platform combines modern editorial technology with the judgement of an international community of editors and reviewers, so that every published article is both accessible and reliable.
Our values
- 01
Independence
Frontiersin is not owned by a commercial publishing group. Editorial decisions are made solely on scientific merit by researchers in the field.
- 02
Openness
Every article is free to read, download and reuse under the Creative Commons Attribution licence, with data and code shared wherever possible.
- 03
Integrity
We follow established publication-ethics guidance, screen every submission for research-integrity concerns and correct the record transparently.
- 04
Equity
Publication fees are waived or reduced for authors from lower-income countries and for early-career researchers without funding.
