How we publish
The seven stages every manuscript passes through, from submission to publication.
1. Submission
Authors submit their manuscript, files and declarations through the online submission form. Every submission receives a reference number and starts with the status "Received".
2. Editorial screening
The editorial office checks scope, completeness, formatting and basic research-integrity requirements. Manuscripts outside the journal scope are returned promptly so authors can submit elsewhere.
3. Peer review
A handling editor invites independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers assess originality, methodology, interpretation and clarity, and declare any competing interests before they begin.
4. Decision
Based on the reports, the handling editor recommends acceptance, revision or rejection. Authors receive the reviewer comments with every decision.
5. Revision
When revisions are requested, authors respond point by point. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers.
6. Acceptance
Once all concerns are resolved, the manuscript is formally accepted and moves to production: copy-editing, typesetting and proof approval.
7. Publication
The final article is published open access with its metadata, PDF, citation information and editorial history.
