3rd Anniversary Collection: Frontiers in Chemical Biology - Recent Developments and Emerging Challenges

To mark the 3rd anniversary of Frontiers in Chemical Biology, we invite the community - including Associate and Chief Editors and our reviewers - to celebrate the journal by submitting a contribution at the chemistry–biology interface.Chemical biology now sits at the center of major scientific opportunities and challenges: turning molecular recognition into reliable cellular control to get predictable and programmable intervention in living systems; describing mechanisms of molecular events; linking mechanism to phenotype across biological scales to explain and predict organism-level outcomes from molecular events; capturing dynamic chemistry in space and time revealing transient states, local microenvironments, and timing-dependent effects; building chemical tools and datasets that are robust, reproducible, and widely reusable to gain shared, dependable infrastructures and designing, synthesizing, characterizing and testing the biological activities of compounds with biological or biomedical relevance. This anniversary Research Topic welcomes high-quality contributions spanning the full scope of the journal’s specialty sections (Bioinorganic Chemistry; Organic Chemical Synthesis; Molecular Sciences; Quantitative and Analytical Techniques; Structure, Spectroscopy and Imaging; and Theoretical Modeling, Structure Prediction and Design—including, but not limited to:• Chemical probe discovery, validation, and best practices for their engagement• Chemoproteomics, functional omics, and target/pathway mapping• Bioorthogonal chemistry, biosensors, imaging, and spatial chemical biology• Enzyme and metabolite mechanisms, reactive signaling, and PTM regulation• Screening, chemical genetics, and quantitative phenotypic profiling• Computational and AI-enabled approaches for discovery and interpretation• Translational studies including design and preparation of drugs and their delivery strategies and approaches to maximize safety• Model systems and biological context (in vitro → cells → organoids → in vivo)• Quantitative chemical biology in cells (exposure, intracellular concentration, and kinetics/temporal control)We welcome Original Research, Brief Research Reports, Reviews, Mini Reviews, Methods and Perspectives, with particular interest in forward-looking work that clarifies and defines key concepts, standards, and current and future research priorities for the field.
