A Public Health Workforce for the Digital Age: Digital Skills and Technologies in Public Health Education and Training, Volume II
The integration of data and digital tools continues to transform public health research and practice. The past few years have seen substantial progress in defining the data and digital competencies that public health professionals require, and in mapping how public health connects with the other disciplines that drive digital transformation. However, these advances have largely not yet reached standard public health education and training. This follow-up Research Topic builds on foundational work by highlighting the emerging body of practice and lessons learned: successes and failures, barriers and facilitators to implementation, and context-specific adaptations of general principles of digital public health education. We are particularly interested in manuscripts that compare approaches across countries, institutions, and disciplines, and that examine how the ideas of digital public health change when they encounter the realities of crowded public health curricula, accreditation requirements, and limited funding and workforce capacity. Our aim is to help educators, programme leaders, and policymakers move towards adoption and implementation of data and digital competencies across public health curricula, and to build an evidence base for what effective, equitable, and sustainable digital public health education looks like in practice. We welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:· Implementing digital competency frameworks in public health education and training· Case studies and lessons learned from digital public health education initiatives· Comparative analyses across countries, institutions, and educational contexts· Evaluating the effectiveness and impact of digital public health training· Embedding digital competencies in continuous professional development and workforce upskilling· Aligning education with evolving labour market needs for digital public health roles· Equity, access, and sustainability in scaling digital public health educationWe acknowledge the initiation and support of this Research Topic by University College London’s RDR Centre of Digital Public Health in Emergencies (dPHE).
