A Sustainable Blue Economy for a Thriving Black Sea

Situated between Europe and Asia, the Black Sea has always held strategic importance in the region. The blue economy serves as a cornerstone for development in the region, supporting the livelihoods of several coastal communities. However, in the global context of climate change and marine biodiversity loss, it is essential that this development respects the balance of local ecosystems and the cohesion of coastal communities. Inspired by the work of EU-funded projects BRIDGE BS and DOORS, this Research Topic explores the development of a sustainable blue economy in the black sea from an interdisciplinary lens. It considers the contribution of different disciplines such as environmental science, economics, policy and governance, stakeholder engagement, ICT and data management, business and innovation. We welcome submissions that crucially examine the interconnected role all these disciplines play in developing a sustainable blue economy in the Black Sea.
