Advanced Active Vibration Control and Intelligent Technologies for Smart Aerospace Structures

Aerospace structures are increasingly designed to be lightweight, flexible, multifunctional, and capable of operating in extreme environments. Although these characteristics improve structural efficiency and mission performance, they also make aerospace systems more susceptible to unwanted vibrations, nonlinear responses, modal coupling, structural instabilities, and dynamic uncertainties. Such problems can significantly affect structural integrity, operational accuracy, service life, and mission reliability in aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, satellites, and other advanced aerospace systems. To address these challenges, considerable research efforts have been devoted to advanced dynamic modeling, vibration analysis, and active vibration control. Emerging approaches combine analytical modeling, numerical simulation, sensing and actuation technologies, smart materials, optimization methods, and intelligent control algorithms. These developments are enabling more accurate characterization of complex structural dynamics and more effective suppression of vibrations under various operational conditions and external excitations. The goal of this Research Topic is to bring together researchers, engineers, and industry experts working on the dynamics, vibration, and active control of aerospace structures. Particular attention is given to innovative modeling methods, control strategies, experimental techniques, and multidisciplinary solutions for lightweight and flexible structures. The Research Topic also seeks to promote the integration of theoretical developments, computational analysis, experimental validation, and practical aerospace applications. This Research Topic welcomes Original Research, Review, and Perspective articles that advance the understanding and control of structural dynamics and vibrations in aerospace engineering.
