Advanced Biocontrol Strategies: Blending Phylogenetics, Symbiosis, And Nanotech For Nematode Control
Nematodes significantly affect global agriculture and present challenges to human and animal health, emphasizing the need for advanced management approaches. In agriculture, plant-parasitic nematodes can lead to substantial crop losses, while parasitic nematodes in humans and livestock contribute to diseases and morbidity. Traditional chemical control measures raise concerns regarding their impact on the environment, resistance development, and the harm they may cause to non-target organisms. These drawbacks highlight the urgency for innovative, eco-friendly control strategies that effectively target nematode infestations while minimizing adverse effects. This Research Topic aims to pioneer integrative approaches blending phylogenetics, symbiotic interactions, plant nematode molecular interactions, and nanotechnology to create advanced solutions for nematode management. By leveraging genomic and evolutionary insights, researchers have the potential to design species-specific interventions that are both sustainable and precise. Investigating the symbiotic relationships between nematodes and microbial partners could uncover new methods for biological suppression. Concurrently, nanotechnology presents exciting prospects in crafting preventive and therapeutic tools for managing nematode threats. Recent technological advancements have paved the way for such interdisciplinary solutions, which could address the pressing challenges across agricultural, medical, and veterinary domains. To gather further insights in eco-friendly nematode management, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Evolutionary and molecular studies of nematodes and their control agents• Biocontrol strategies using microbial symbionts across systems• Application of nanomaterials in antiparasitic contexts• Translational research and field validation of biocontrol approaches• Comprehensive reviews on nematode management across different sectors• The molecular characterisation of plant parasitic nematodes gene(s)/effectors.• Plant immunity manipulation during nematode interactions. This Research Topic encourages innovations that promote food security and improve public health while reducing environmental impacts. We invite contributions from a wide array of disciplines, aiming for holistic and sustainable nematode management solutions. We welcome contributions including original research, reviews, hypothesis & theory, and method articles.
