Advanced chemical processes and materials for efficient green hydrogen systems
The field of green hydrogen energy conversion is undergoing rapid transformation as the global emphasis on carbon neutrality and sustainable development intensifies. Recent technological breakthroughs underscore the critical role of materials science, particularly in the optimization of hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells and associated electrochemical devices. While green hydrogen is widely recognized as a promising clean energy carrier, practical adoption hinges on significant advances in core materials—especially those facilitating higher efficiency, durability, and lower costs in fuel cell technologies. Current research strives to refine electrode components, electrolytes, and supporting materials, yet major challenges linger around scalability, stability under operational conditions, and integration into existing energy systems. This Research Topic aims to showcase leading-edge developments in the design, synthesis, and deployment of functional materials dedicated to hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells. Specifically, it targets breakthroughs in electrode active materials and related chemical components that are central to improving the performance and lifecycle of green hydrogen energy systems. By focusing on these essential material aspects, the goal is to address persistent questions regarding conductivity, catalytic efficiency, degradation mechanisms, and the interaction of advanced chemical processes within the fuel cell environment. The scope of this Research Topic is intentionally narrowed to emphasize materials and chemical processes directly relevant to hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells, rather than extending to the full spectrum of hydrogen energy technologies. We welcome contributions that address, but are not limited to, the following themes:o Development and characterization of electrode active materialso Innovative conductive agents and their integration strategieso Design and optimization of binders, separators, and current collectorso Electrolyte salts, solvents, and additives advancing fuel cell performanceo Degradation mechanisms and material longevity under real-world conditions Topic editors: Peng Wei, Zhipeng Yu, Qirui Liang, Jiawei Zhu Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/78798/advanced-chemical-processes-and-materials-for-efficient-green-hydrogen-systems
