Advanced Nanomaterials and Nanoscale Devices for Sustainable Energy Storage, Conversion and Harvesting – Highlights of IC-AMDFA-2026

This Research Topic is launched in association with the 3rd International Conference on Advanced Materials and Devices for Futuristic Applications (IC-AMDFA-2026), organized by the Department of Physics, University Institute of Sciences, Chandigarh University, Punjab, India, on 29–30 October 2026. The conference brings together scientists, academicians, and industry practitioners to present high-performance materials and optimized device architectures for next-generation technologies, including clean energy solutions. This collection is dedicated to work associated with the conference, including contributions from invited authors and from authors who submitted to or presented at IC-AMDFA-2026.The transition toward clean and sustainable energy systems relies on advanced materials and innovative nanoscale devices capable of high-efficiency energy conversion, storage, and harvesting. Understanding the fundamental relationships between material composition, nanoscale structure, interfaces, and device-level performance is critical for translating laboratory discoveries into practical technologies. This Research Topic provides a multidisciplinary platform highlighting recent advances in the design, synthesis, characterization, modelling, and device integration of functional nanomaterials. We particularly encourage contributions that combine experimental and computational approaches, address interface and degradation mechanisms, and demonstrate scalable fabrication for improved efficiency and operational stability.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:• Nanomaterials, 2D materials, and multifunctional heterostructures for energy technologies• Electrochemical energy storage: advanced batteries, supercapacitors, and next-generation storage systems• Solar and optoelectronic energy conversion: photovoltaic materials, solar cells, and photonic devices• Energy harvesting technologies: thermoelectric, piezoelectric, and triboelectric nanogenerators• Hydrogen technologies, electrocatalysis, and photocatalysis for clean fuel production• Flexible, wearable, and self-powered nanoscale electronic systems• Advanced interface engineering, defect chemistry, and operando/in-situ characterization• Computational modelling, machine learning, and data-driven materials discovery• Device performance optimization, stability, scalability, and lifecycle durabilityWe welcome Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspective articles presenting significant technological and fundamental advances in the field. This Research Topic is open only to authors who have been invited by the editorial team or the conference organizers, authors who submitted their work to IC-AMDFA-2026, and authors who present their work at the conference.
