Advancements in Precision Radiotherapy for Gastrointestinal Cancers
Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers present unique challenges for radiation oncologists due to tumor motion, anatomical variability, and the proximity of sensitive organs-at-risk. In recent years, precision radiotherapy (RT) has undergone rapid evolution, driven not only by advances in imaging and treatment delivery, but also by the integration of new on-table adaptive protocols, motion management strategies, and innovative radiation modalities. This collection aims to showcase cutting-edge developments and practical implementations in precision radiotherapy for GI malignancies, emphasizing technical, clinical, and translational advances that directly impact treatment delivery and patient outcomes. We specifically seek contributions describing:• Image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) and adaptive platforms (MR-guided RT, CBCT-based adaptation, real-time tracking) as applied to GI cancers.• Motion management techniques (gating, tracking, breath-hold, and 4D CT/MRI approaches) for minimizing dosimetric uncertainty and toxicity,• Next-generation treatment modalities and strategies, particularly in particle therapy (protons, carbon ions), FLASH RT, and stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR), for dose-painting and functional imaging for boosting tumor subvolumes.• Personalisation of radiotherapy protocols with adaptive fractionation and real-world experience with individualized margins, OAR sparing, and patient-specific planning.• Clinical trial updates and real-world evidence supporting the adoption of advanced RT technologies in GI tumors.• Implementation science, workflow integration, and access to multidisciplinary strategies to facilitate translation from technical innovation to routine clinical care. This collection specifically invites submissions that focus on applied precision radiotherapy techniques and clinical implementation. Manuscripts that are purely focused on AI-driven planning, molecular profiling, or genomics without clear relevance to radiotherapy technique, technology, or clinical workflow will be considered out of scope. Please note: manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or predictions of public databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent clinical or patient cohort, or biological validation in vitro or in vivo, which are not based on public databases) are not suitable for publication in this journal.
