Advancements in the Understanding, Diagnosis, and Control of Infectious Diseases in Herbivorous Livestock, Volume II
Advances in Infectious Diseases of Herbivorous LivestockInfectious diseases remain a major threat to the health, welfare, and productivity of herbivorous livestock, including horses, cattle, goats, and sheep. Viral, bacterial, mycoplasmal, and parasitic infections can cause respiratory, digestive, reproductive, neurological, and systemic diseases, leading to animal mortality, production losses, treatment costs, and restrictions on livestock movement and trade. The occurrence and severity of these diseases are influenced by complex interactions among pathogens, hosts, vectors, and environmental factors. Pathogen evolution, immune evasion, antimicrobial resistance, mixed infections, intensive production systems, and climate-related changes in vector distribution have created additional challenges for disease prevention and control. This Research Topic aims to present recent advances in the epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases affecting herbivorous livestock. We particularly welcome studies thatimprove understanding of host–pathogen interactions, pathogen transmission and evolution, immune responses, coinfections, and disease-control strategies.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:* Epidemiology, surveillance, and molecular tracing of infectious diseases;* Pathogenesis, virulence factors, and host immune responses;* Viral, bacterial, mycoplasmal, and parasitic diseases;* Mixed infections and major disease complexes;* Rapid, multiplex, and field-applicable diagnostic technologies;* Vaccine development, novel antigens, adjuvants, and delivery systems;* Antimicrobial resistance and alternatives to antibiotics;* Therapeutic antibodies, antimicrobial peptides, bacteriophages, and antiparasitic strategies;* Vector-borne diseases and vector–pathogen–host interactions;* Biosecurity, risk assessment, epidemiological modeling, and integrated disease control.
