Advancements in Therapeutic Strategies for Pancreatic Cancer: Challenges and Opportunities Volume II

Pancreatic malignant tumors including pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs) are major malignancies of the digestive system. Most patients are diagnosed at a late stage, when the tumor is unresectable. The 5-year survival rate across all stages combined is only 12%, highlighting the pressing need to develop early diagnostic biomarkers.Surgery is a primary treatment option for pancreatic malignant tumors, particularly when the tumor is localized and has not spread. Robotic-assisted and laparoscopic surgery may be options for selected patients; however, whether they are suitable for the Whipple procedure remains controversial. Chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment for PDAC. Immunotherapy is a promising therapy in many other solid tumors, but its value in PDAC needs further investigation. This Research Topic focuses on progress in immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy for pancreatic cancer. As surgery is one of the curative therapies for pancreatic cancer and other pancreatic diseases, this topic will also discuss the ongoing debate between laparotomy and minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery. To gather further insights in the clinical research of eye diseases, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Laparoscopic surgery versus laparotomy• Advantages and disadvantages of minimally invasive surgery• Immunotherapy and chemotherapy in pancreatic cancer• Diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors• Diagnostic biomarkers in pancreatic malignant diseases Topic editors: Guangbing Li, Yanquan Zhang, Yefan Zhang, Yongliang Sun Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/83852/advancements-in-therapeutic-strategies-for-pancreatic-cancer-challenges-and-opportunities-volume-ii
