Advancements in Vaccine Strategies for Chronic Infectious Disease Management
In the field of infectious diseases, therapeutic vaccines offer a groundbreaking approach not only to preventing but also to treating chronic infections, addressing a significant gap in current global health interventions. Unlike prophylactic vaccines, which aim to prevent disease, therapeutic vaccines are designed to treat existing infections by enhancing the body’s immune response to control or eliminate the infection. Despite their vast potential, therapeutic vaccines remain an underdeveloped field, with only a few studies dedicated to chronic infections. This Research Topic aims to consolidate recent advancements in the development of therapeutic vaccines across various chronic infectious diseases. It seeks to promote an interdisciplinary dialogue on innovative strategies, novel vaccine targets, and delivery systems, ultimately highlighting the transformative potential of therapeutic vaccines in both treating and managing infections. To provide a comprehensive overview, we invite submissions on a wide range of themes, including but not limited to:-Immunological mechanisms of therapeutic vaccine action in chronic infectious diseases-Novel vaccine targets and antigen discovery for chronic infections-Advanced delivery systems and adjuvants for therapeutic vaccine development-Preclinical and clinical studies on therapeutic vaccine efficacy and safety-Integration of therapeutic vaccines with existing treatment regimensMultidisciplinary approaches combining immunology, genomics, and biotechnology to accelerate therapeutic vaccine developmentWe welcome contributions in the form of original research, comprehensive reviews, case reports, and perspectives detailing innovative findings, clinical applications, or hypotheses related to therapeutic vaccines. Submissions should demonstrate rigorous scientific methodology and provide significant insights into the future of this promising field. Multidisciplinary studies that foster collaboration across immunology, parasitology, virology, and related fields are highly encouraged.By gathering a diverse range of studies, this Research Topic will serve as a valuable resource to inspire further research, foster collaborations, and ultimately accelerate the development of therapeutic vaccines for chronic infectious diseases globally.
