Advances in Allergic Skin Diseases: From Immunopathogenesis to Precision Management

Allergic skin diseases, including atopic dermatitis, chronic urticaria, angioedema, prurigo nodularis, allergic contact dermatitis, and other related disorders, represent a major global health challenge with complex and multifactorial origins. Over the past decade, deepened insights into immunopathogenesis have reshaped our understanding of these diseases, particularly through discoveries in epithelial barrier dysfunction, type 2 inflammation, neuroimmune interactions, autoimmunity, and microbiome dysbiosis. Studies have identified critical immune pathways and biomolecular networks underlying disease heterogeneity, yet significant variability persists across patients in clinical presentation, immune profiles, and response to therapy. While biologics and small-molecule inhibitors have revolutionized treatment paradigms, there remains an urgent need to refine patient stratification frameworks through integration of biomarkers and molecular signatures. Current research continues to seek effective translation of these advances into long-term disease control and personalized management strategies. This Research Topic aims to provide a state-of-the-art overview of current progress and emerging directions in allergic skin diseases, with a particular emphasis on the intersection between immunopathogenesis and precision management. It seeks to show key mechanisms underlying disease heterogeneity, explore novel biomarkers for disease classification and treatment response, and evaluate the efficacy of targeted therapeutic interventions. Contributions are encouraged to address critical questions related to disease endotyping, optimization of precision-based treatment regimens, and the integration of translational research findings into clinical care. By bridging fundamental immunology with real-world dermatological practice, this Research Topic strives to foster dialogue between basic scientists, clinicians, and translational researchers in shaping next-generation management strategies. To gather further insights into the evolving landscape of allergic skin diseases and precision medicine, submissions are invited that examine diverse biological, technological, and clinical perspectives in this field.
