Advances in Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems and Smart Integration for Sustainable Development
The global push toward decarbonization has led to a significant surge in the deployment of renewable energy systems. However, the intermittent nature of renewable sources like solar and wind, along with their integration into aging grid infrastructures, continues to pose major challenges. Hybrid renewable systems, which combine two or more sources with energy storage, offer promising solutions to enhance reliability, cost-efficiency, and environmental sustainability.Additionally, emerging technologies such as AI for forecasting and optimization, smart EMS, and new policy models are enabling deeper penetration of clean energy into both grid-connected and off-grid areas. This interdisciplinary topic seeks to highlight innovations that support robust, intelligent, and policy-compliant systems for long-term energy sustainability. The goal of this Research Topic is to explore how advanced hybrid renewable energy systems, supported by intelligent forecasting, optimization, and storage integration, can accelerate the transition to sustainable and resilient energy infrastructures. With global energy demands rising and environmental concerns becoming more critical, it is imperative to develop systems that can operate efficiently across diverse geographies and resource availabilities—especially in remote and under-served areas. This Research Topic aims to bridge the gap between academic innovation and practical implementation, offering a platform for researchers, engineers, and policy-makers to share ground-breaking work in hybrid systems, AI-enhanced control, and smart energy frameworks that support sustainable development at global and local levels.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:• Design, modeling, and optimization of hybrid renewable systems• AI/ML-based forecasting and control strategies• Integration of energy storage for reliability and peak shaving• Simulation tools, real-time modeling, and EMS development• Technology-economic feasibility and life-cycle assessment• Off-grid and micro-grid solutions for rural electrification• Smart grid integration and grid-tied hybrid systems• Policy evaluation, regulatory models, and planning frameworksAuthors are invited to submit original research articles, comprehensive reviews, real-world case studies, simulation-based evaluations, and policy analysis papers.
