Advances in Immunological Diagnostics for Infectious Diseases and Autoimmune Disorders: Novel Biomarkers, Serology, and Technological Developments — Volume II

Building on the success of Volume I, this Research Topic continues to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of immunological diagnostics for infectious diseases and autoimmune disorders. The first volume established a strong foundation by highlighting key advances in biomarker discovery, serological platforms, and diagnostic technologies. Volume II now expands this scope, addressing emerging challenges and unresolved questions in the field, with a focus on translating diagnostic innovation into clinical practice.Laboratory-based immunodiagnostics remain central to the accurate detection, monitoring, and management of both infectious and autoimmune conditions. As technologies continue to evolve, so too does our understanding of disease heterogeneity, immune variability across populations, and the complex interplay between infection and autoimmunity. Techniques such as immunofluorescence, multiplex platforms, chemiluminescence, ELISA, immunoblotting, and complement assays are increasingly being refined and integrated with digital and data-driven approaches to enhance diagnostic precision across bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections, as well as conditions including systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and type 1 diabetes.Volume II particularly welcomes contributions that move beyond initial characterization toward validation, clinical implementation, and real-world performance assessment of immunodiagnostic tools. We invite submissions of Original Research, Reviews, Mini Reviews, and Perspective articles on topics including, but not limited to:-Validation and clinical implementation of novel autoantibody and serological markers across diverse patient populations.-Longitudinal immunological profiling to track disease progression, treatment response, and relapse in infectious and autoimmune diseases.-Advances in point-of-care and rapid immunodiagnostic technologies for resource-limited settings.-Application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve diagnostic accuracy, biomarker stratification, and outcome prediction.-Exploration of host-pathogen immune interactions as diagnostic targets in emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.-Multi-omics integration for the identification of novel immune signatures in autoimmune pathology.-Standardization and harmonization of immunodiagnostic assays across laboratories and geographic regions.-Influence of genetic factors, including HLA polymorphisms and immune gene variants, on diagnostic performance and disease susceptibility.-Cross-reactivity, false positivity, and interference challenges in contemporary immunoassay platforms.-Comparative studies of immune activation markers — including neutrophil, lymphocyte, and complement-based assays — for diagnostic and prognostic use.
