Advances in Orally Inhaled and Nasal Drug Products (OINDPs), Volume II
Orally Inhaled and Nasal Drug Products (OINDPs) remain one of the most active areas of pharmaceutical innovation. Since the first volume of this Research Topic, Advances in Orally Inhaled and Nasal Drug Products (OINDPs), the field has moved well beyond the traditional challenges of formulation optimization and device engineering that defined the past decade. Inhaled biologics and mRNA, nose-to-brain delivery for neurological disease, propellant transition under F-gas regulation, easy-to-use (open-inhale-close), digitally connected inhalers, AI-driven particle and device design, and patient-centric usability have all matured into translational programs with regulatory traction.Volume I focused on nano-carrier nasal delivery for neurotherapeutics, thermos-responsive nasal gels, electro-sprayed local chemotherapy, and drug-induced interstitial lung disease. Volume II will build on this foundation and broaden its scope to encompass translational and clinical perspectives, as well as medical practice, market dynamics, regulatory considerations, and digital innovations reshaping the OINDP landscape. This Research Topic invites studies that report fundamental, applied, clinical, medical, and computational work on inhaled and intranasal drug products, while hoping to create a bridge for formulation science, device engineering, in vitro and in silico modelling, pharmacokinetics, clinical translation, medical challenges, and regulatory science. Volume II, therefore, aimed to capture the next wave of OINDP science: studies that translate new platforms, regulations, and altered patient needs into the robust, manufacturable, clinically and medically meaningful products.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:• Inhaled biologics, peptides, and nucleic acids (mRNA, siRNA, mAbs, vaccines, GLP-1s)• Nose-to-brain delivery against CNS disorders• Sustainable propellants and environmentally-responsible inhaler designs (HFA-152a, HFO-1234ze(E))• Digitally-connected inhalers, adherence monitoring, and real-world evidence• Dry powder, soft mist, metered dose inhalers, and nebulizer innovation, including engineered particles• Advanced in vitro models’, lung-on-chip, nasal casts, modified throat, primary airway cultures• AI, machine learning, digital platforms, and CFD in formulation, therapeutic, and device development• Bioequivalence, complex generics, and PBPK modelling for OINDPs• Inhaled anti-infectives and pulmonary vaccines• Patient-centric designs, pediatric and geriatric use, and global access• Inhalation toxicology and post-marketing safety• Evolution of medical practice: past, present, and emerging trends in OINDPs• Market dynamics and commercialization perspectives of OINDPs Topic editors: Dr. Piyush Pradeep Mehta, Eleonore Fröhlich, Santosh Kumar C M Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/80995/advances-in-orally-inhaled-and-nasal-drug-products-oindps-volume-ii
