Advances in Organ Injury: From Mechanisms to Clinical Management and AI-Driven Innovations

Organ injury remains a central challenge in emergency and critical care medicine, contributing significantly to morbidity and mortality worldwide. Injuries to vital organs—such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, and brain—can result from diverse etiologies including trauma, sepsis, ischemia-reperfusion, and toxic exposures. Despite advances in supportive care, early detection, precise monitoring, and targeted interventions remain limited. Recent advances in multi-omics, biomarker discovery, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and artificial intelligence (AI) offer promising avenues for improving diagnostic accuracy, prognostic stratification, and personalized therapeutic strategies. However, barriers persist regarding the integration of technological innovations into routine care, the translation of laboratory discoveries to the bedside, and the rigorous evaluation of traditional and emerging therapeutic modalities. This Research Topic seeks to bridge mechanistic insights, clinical applications, and technological innovations in the field of organ injury. We encourage contributions that explore novel pathogenic mechanisms, validate clinical biomarkers, investigate TCM approaches, integrate AI-based predictive models, and evaluate emerging therapeutic approaches. The ultimate goal is to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and accelerate the translation of research findings into improved patient outcomes in acute and critical care settings. We welcome original research, reviews, mini-reviews, perspectives, and clinical trial articles that address, but are not limited to, the following themes:• Clinical studies on therapeutic interventions, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies in organ injury.• Prospective/retrospective cohort study. Clinical research based on public data of organ injury assessment.• AI and machine learning applications in predicting, diagnosing, or monitoring organ injury• Mechanisms of acute and chronic organ injury at cellular and molecular levels• Novel biomarkers for early detection and prognosis of organ dysfunction• Translational research bridging experimental models and human studies• Imaging advancements in organ injury assessment• Multi-organ crosstalk in critical illness• Ethical, logistical, and technological challenges in organ injury research• Botanical and traditional medicine for organ injury Topic editors: Jiang Du, Shisan (Bob) Bao, Yingjian Zhu Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/77273/advances-in-organ-injury-from-mechanisms-to-clinical-management-and-ai-driven-innovations
