Advances in PNT From Near-Earth Space to Deep-Space Environment

The rapid development of technologies such as the Beidou navigation satellite system (BDS) and low-earth-orbit (LEO) augmentation has played a pivotal role in national positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) infrastructure construction. However, constrained by factors including diverse spatial environmental structures and complex characteristics, traditional PNT approaches face severe challenges in near-Earth, Earth-Moon, deep-space and other extreme environments, necessitating the construction of resilient PNT solutions with high anti-jamming and adaptive capabilities. By integrating global navigation satellite system (GNSS), LEO augmentation, stellar navigation, X-ray pulsar navigation, and astronomical observations, the establishment of PNT models and methods in near-Earth, Earth-Moon, deep-space and other extreme environments to ensure the accuracy, continuity, integrity, and efficiency of comprehensive PNT services has become a critical focus in future PNT development strategies. This Research Topic focuses on the core proposition of PNT technologies in near-Earth, Earth-Moon, deep-space and other extreme environments, and systematically addresses the following scientific challenges and technical problems:1. Integrated and Resilient PNT Architecture Design: Enhancing the PNT performance in complex environment by integrating multi-source technologies including GNSS, LEO augmentation, stellar navigation, X-ray pulsar navigation, and astronomical observations, to achieve high anti-jamming and strong adaptive cross-domain collaborative capabilities;2. High-Precision Spatiotemporal Reference Construction: Developing positioning and timing technologies to improve PNT performance in near-Earth, Earth-Moon, deep-space and other extreme environments, which supports orbit design and control for deep-space exploration missions;3. Space Environment Effect Compensation: Addressing signal delays, scintillation, and other impacts caused by the ionosphere and space weather by investigating error modeling and compensation methods under space physics mechanisms, to ensure the continuity, integrity, and efficiency of PNT services in complex space environment;4. Seamless Coverage and Continuous Service: Enhancing space service capabilities through combining multi-source navigation technologies to achieve seamless PNT service coverage in near-Earth, Earth-Moon, deep-space and other extreme environments, to meet the needs of major engineering missions such as manned spaceflight. This Research Topic is dedicated to comprehensively exploring the advances in PNT in near-Earth, Earth-Moon, deep-space and other extreme environments, with a focus on enhancing resilience, accuracy, and adaptability in extreme conditions.
