Advances in Smart Renewable Energy: Intelligent Forecasting, High-Performance Converters and Modeling
The global transition toward renewable energy and smart grids demands high‑performance converters to ensure high efficiency, high power density, reliability, and fast dynamic performance. Wide bandgap devices, soft‑switching techniques, multilevel inverters, and grid‑forming control strategies play a crucial role in enabling the large‑scale integration of renewable energy resources, including photovoltaic (PV) systems, wind energy, battery storage, electric vehicles, and microgrids. The rapid growth of renewable energy integration is placing increasing technical demands on power electronic converters, including challenges related to conversion efficiency, thermal management, harmonic distortion, weak‑grid stability, and component lifetime under dynamic operating conditions. In addition, converter‑dominated power systems require robust grid‑forming capabilities and coordinated operation with energy storage systems and electric vehicle infrastructures. Recent progress in advanced modeling, real‑time monitoring and control, and fault‑tolerant converter design provides new opportunities to enhance system reliability and grid stability. This Research Topic aims to collect contributions that advance converter technologies and system integration for renewable energy and smart grid applications. We welcome original research and review papers that present novel models, converter architectures, control strategies, and practical case studies related to integrated energy systems.
