Advances in Surgical and Multidisciplinary Management of Gynecologic and Breast Cancers

Gynecologic and breast cancers represent a major global health burden and remain among the leading causes of cancer-related morbidity and mortality in women. Rapid advances in surgical oncology, systemic therapies, molecular diagnostics, and multidisciplinary cancer care have significantly improved the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of these malignancies. Innovations including minimally invasive and robotic surgery, sentinel lymph node mapping, precision oncology, biologic targeted agents, immunotherapies, and enhanced perioperative management are enabling increasingly personalized and tailored treatment strategies. At the same time, growing understanding of tumor biology, carcinogenesis, immunology, and the tumor microenvironment is driving the development of novel therapeutic approaches across both gynecologic and breast oncology. Continued translational and clinical research is essential to integrate these advances into evidence-based multidisciplinary care pathways that improve survival, quality of life, and long-term survivorship outcomes. This Research Topic aims to provide a multidisciplinary platform for cutting-edge research focused on advances in the surgical and integrated management of gynecologic and breast cancers. Despite considerable progress in oncologic care, important challenges remain in optimizing personalized treatment strategies, balancing oncologic efficacy with functional and quality-of-life outcomes, overcoming therapeutic resistance, and reducing disparities in access to innovative care. Furthermore, emerging developments in molecular profiling, prognostic and predictive biomarkers, immunotherapies, biologic targeted agents, developmental therapeutics, and multimodality treatment strategies are rapidly reshaping clinical practice and require continued scientific and clinical evaluation. This collection seeks to bring together clinical, translational, and preclinical research that advances personalized approaches to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship in gynecologic and breast malignancies. We particularly encourage interdisciplinary contributions exploring surgical innovation, perioperative optimization, tumor biology and microenvironment, multimodality therapies, patient-reported outcomes, and survivorship care. By fostering collaboration among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, translational scientists, and allied healthcare professionals, this Research Topic aims to support the dissemination of impactful discoveries that improve patient-centered outcomes and advance the future of gynecologic and breast oncology. This Research Topic welcomes Original Research, Reviews, Systematic Reviews, Mini Revies, Clinical Studies and Perspectives articles addressing innovative surgical and multidisciplinary approaches in gynecologic and breast cancers across preclinical, translational, and clinical research settings. Contributions should provide detailed and clinically relevant insights into personalized and tailored approaches to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship of patients with gynecologic and breast malignancies. Studies integrating multidisciplinary care models, translational science, and emerging technologies are particularly encouraged. We welcome submissions on themes including, but not limited to:- Minimally invasive, robotic, and image-guided surgical techniques- Surgery and perioperative optimization in gynecologic and breast cancers- Multi-modality and combination therapies- Precision oncology, molecular profiling, and predictive biomarkers- Biologic targeted agents and developmental therapeutics- Immunology, immunotherapies, and tumor/host microenvironment- Etiology, carcinogenesis, and translational tumor biology- Chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, and radiation therapy integration- Screening, diagnosis, and surgical staging strategies- Fertility preservation, survivorship, and supportive care- Quality of life and patient-reported outcomes- Population sciences, healthcare disparities, and global oncology perspectives- Artificial intelligence and digital technologies in oncologic carePlease note: manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or predictions of public databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent clinical or patient cohort, or biological validation in vitro or in vivo, which are not based on public databases) are not suitable for publication in this Research Topic.
