Advancing Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery: Unique Case Reports Driving Progress

The field of otorhinolaryngology – head and neck surgery encompasses a wide array of disorders and interventions affecting the ear, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. Despite significant progress in surgical techniques, diagnostics, and therapeutic modalities, clinicians continue to encounter unique or unexpected presentations that challenge conventional approaches. These uncommon cases, ranging from rare malignancies to unexpected sequelae of routine procedures, often push the boundaries of current knowledge and clinical practice. Recent studies have highlighted the value of case reports in illuminating rare pathologies, novel treatment protocols, and atypical disease courses, thereby serving both educational and research purposes. However, much of this knowledge remains siloed within individual institutions or specialist circles, underlining the need for broader dissemination and critical evaluation of such singular experiences. This Research Topic aims to assemble and showcase original case reports that describe exceptional and instructive presentations in otorhinolaryngology – head and neck surgery. The goal is to provide a platform for sharing unique patient cases that contribute to improved differential diagnoses, innovative management strategies, and enhanced understanding of unusual clinical courses. By emphasizing rigorous reporting and clear educational relevance, this Topic seeks to advance both clinical practice and trainee education while also stimulating dialogue on gaps and challenges exposed by atypical cases in the field. This Research Topic will exclusively accept case report submissions, focusing on cases with meaningful lessons or clinical advances relevant to otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery. To foster a comprehensive perspective, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:o Rare or novel presentations of otorhinolaryngologic diseases;o Unexpected surgical or medical treatment outcomes;o Challenging differential diagnoses;o Innovative or unconventional management approaches;o Complications or sequelae in head and neck interventions;o Emerging trends in perioperative or postoperative care;o Interdisciplinary insights impacting patient outcomes.Only original case reports will be considered for this Research Topic. Reports must meaningfully advance the field or offer significant educational value.
