Advancing Stroke Rehabilitation through Neuromodulation and Brain-Computer Interface Innovation

Stroke ranks as the leading cause of adult disability globally. Post-stroke motor, cognitive, language and emotional deficits greatly impede patients’ recovery of activities of daily living (ADL). Driven by interdisciplinary progress in brain science, engineering medicine and neuroscience, targeted central neuromodulation and human-computer interactive brain-computer interfaces (BCI) have evolved as pivotal frontier strategies to facilitate post-stroke brain plasticity and overcome rehabilitation limitations for refractory post-stroke sequela. This issue addresses whole-cycle stroke rehabilitation, covering key research scopes: 1. Transcranial electro-magnetic neuromodulation, peripheral neuromodulation, closed-loop neuromodulation;2. Invasive/non-invasive BCI, brain circuit decoding, and human-machine collaborative rehabilitation. It welcomes original research articles and review papers concerning pathological mechanisms, clinical controlled trials, technological optimization, and standardized rehabilitation protocols. Based on multidisciplinary evidence integration, this issue intends to connect fundamental neuroscience and clinic translational rehabilitation, advance intelligent, individualized stroke rehabilitation, and offer academic references for clinical therapeutic optimization, rehabilitative device development, and industrial standard formulation. Ultimately, it promotes the clinical translation of neuroengineering techniques for optimized stroke rehabilitation. All submitted manuscripts should fit the scope of this issue, with concise, precise, well-structured content and prominent academic value.
