Advancing Translational Research in Brain-Heart Axis Interaction

The field of neurocardiology explores the intricate, bidirectional communications between the brain and the heart-collectively termed the Brain-Heart Axis. This multifaceted network encompasses neural, autonomic, endocrine, immune, and metabolic signaling pathways responsible for maintaining physiological balance. Recent advances underscore that disruptions in the brain-heart axis can significantly contribute to a spectrum of disorders such as autonomic cardiomyopathy, neurodegenerative disease-linked cardiac complications, stroke, and stress-related cardiomyopathies. Despite considerable mechanistic insights into the neurocardiac interface, key questions remain regarding the translation of these findings to clinical practice, the full repertoire of signaling networks involved, and the development of specific biomarkers and targeted interventions.Present studies have mapped portions of brain-heart communication, shedding light on shared molecular pathways and overlapping pathologies in both cardiovascular and neurological conditions. Leading research has begun to unravel gene-environment interactions and the influence of metabolic, immune, and epigenetic factors on neurocardiac health. Promising discoveries include potential biomarkers, precision medicine targets, and deep learning-driven analytic approaches. Yet, major challenges persist in bridging experimental research with real-world patient care, particularly in validating biomarkers, harnessing artificial intelligence for clinical use, and designing transformative therapeutic strategies. This Research Topic aims to accelerate the translation of basic neurocardiac insights into clinical applications, refine our understanding of the molecular basis of brain-heart axis dysfunction, and support innovative diagnostic and therapeutic solutions. Central objectives include fostering multidisciplinary approaches to discover and validate novel brain-heart signaling pathways, exploring the impact of emerging technologies, and facilitating precision medicine strategies that will enhance patient care and outcomes. The scope of this Research Topic encompasses both foundational and translational studies that investigate mechanisms, biomarkers, and interventions in brain-heart axis disorders, while prioritizing interdisciplinary research and clinical impact.
