AI in Business: Intelligent Transformation and Management
Artificial intelligence (AI) has evolved from a peripheral analytical tool into a central driver of transformation across business and organizational domains. Advances in machine learning, large language models, intelligent agents, and data-driven analytics are increasingly embedded in strategic planning, forecasting, operations, innovation, and human-centered management. Organizations now rely on AI systems not only to automate processes, but also to augment decision-making under uncertainty, enhance productivity, and generate competitive advantage. At the same time, the rapid diffusion of AI technologies raises important challenges related to governance, ethics, workforce adaptation, and responsible deployment. Despite significant progress in AI research, gaps remain between cutting-edge technical developments and their effective, scalable, and accountable integration into real-world business contexts. Addressing these gaps requires interdisciplinary perspectives that connect AI methodologies with managerial, economic, organizational, and societal considerations. The goal of this Research Topic is to improve our understanding of how artificial intelligence can support intelligent transformation and effective management in business. Building on the AAAI Symposium “AI in Business: Intelligent Transformation and Management” this article collection extends the discussions initiated at the symposium into a peer-reviewed journal setting. The Collection aims to bring together researchers and practitioners to study how AI methods, such as machine learning, large language models, intelligent agents, and data-driven analytics, are used in areas including strategic decision-making, forecasting, operations, innovation, and organizational learning. We seek contributions that provide clear theoretical insights, sound methodologies, and real-world evidence on how AI systems are designed, deployed, and managed in business environments. By linking technical advances with managerial, organizational, and ethical perspectives, this Research Topic aims to produce practical and reliable knowledge that supports responsible, effective, and human-centered use of AI in business. This Research Topic focuses on the development, use, and management of artificial intelligence in business and organizational settings. We welcome contributions that study how AI systems support decision-making, forecasting, operations, and innovation across a wide range of domains. Relevant themes include, but are not limited to:• AI-enabled strategic planning; sales, demand, and financial forecasting• Predictive and prescriptive analytics; • Operations and supply chain management; automation and robotics• Integration of AI with the Internet of Things• Applications of AI in finance, economics, marketing, and human resources• The design and use of large language models and autonomous agents in business contexts. We also encourage work that examines issues of ethics, governance, transparency, and responsible use of AI. Interdisciplinary studies that connect technical methods with managerial, organizational, or social perspectives are especially welcome. The Research Topic invites Original Research Articles, Review Papers, Methodological Contributions, Case Studies, and Perspective or Conceptual Articles that provide clear theoretical, empirical, or practical insights into AI in business.
