Analytical Applications of Innovative Nanostructured Substrates for SERS Spectroscopy

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has been increasingly popular in analytical chemistry. Recognized for its molecular specificity, rapid measurement capabilities, and minimal sample requirement, SERS is revolutionizing the field. The integration of portable Raman spectrometers further elevates its utility, facilitating real-time, in-field analyses. Despite these advancements, developing nanostructured substrates that combine high efficacy with reproducible preparation remains a critical goal. These substrates are pivotal for applying SERS to solve pressing analytical challenges in areas such as healthcare, agrifood, and environmental monitoring, especially with the growing demand for mobile and accessible sensor technologies. This Research Topic aims to explore SERS through the development of innovative nanostructured substrates. The focus lies on producing substrates that not only meet high standards of performance but also sustain reproducibility in varied analytical scenarios. Fundamental questions include how these substrates can be optimized for complex matrices and what novel materials might lead to breakthroughs in sensitivity and specificity. We will accept Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspective articles. To gather further insights in the development and application of SERS substrates, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Novel methodologies for creating nanostructured substrates• Characterization techniques for evaluating substrate performance• Case studies demonstrating the application of substrates in analytical settings• Challenges and solutions in substrate reproducibility• Development of portable sensors for on-site SERS analysis Topic editors: Silvia Bruni, Margherita Longoni, István Csarnovics Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/73549/analytical-applications-of-innovative-nanostructured-substrates-for-sers-spectroscopy
