Angiogenesis and Nutraceuticals, Volume II
Angiogenesis, the process through which new blood vessels arise from pre-existing vasculature, plays a pivotal role in both physiological and pathological conditions. Physiologically, angiogenesis is essential for tissue growth, wound healing, reproductive functions, and embryonic development. Conversely, dysregulated angiogenesis contributes to the progression of numerous diseases, including cancer, diabetic retinopathy, atherosclerosis, chronic inflammatory disorders, and cerebrovascular diseases. Current antiangiogenic therapies mainly target angiogenic growth factors and their signaling pathways; however, these approaches are often associated with resistance mechanisms and adverse effects. In recent years, increasing attention has been devoted to nutraceuticals and bioactive food components as potential modulators of angiogenesis. Natural compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties may represent safer and more sustainable strategies for regulating vascular function and preventing angiogenesis-related pathologies.Following the original edition, this second edition of this Research Topic aims to further explore the emerging role of nutraceuticals and dietary bioactive compounds in the modulation of angiogenesis and vascular health. Although significant advances have been made in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying angiogenesis, there is still a need to identify novel natural compounds, clarify their mechanisms of action, and evaluate their translational potential in disease prevention and therapy. This collection seeks to provide an updated overview of experimental, preclinical, and clinical studies investigating the effects of nutraceuticals on angiogenic pathways in both physiological and pathological contexts. Particular emphasis will be placed on the interaction between food-derived compounds and conventional antiangiogenic therapies, as well as on innovative methodological approaches for the characterization of natural products and their biological activities. By gathering multidisciplinary contributions, this Research Topic aims to stimulate the development of safer and more effective strategies for the prevention and management of angiogenesis-related diseases. This Research Topic welcomes contributions addressing the role of nutraceuticals, dietary compounds, and natural products in the regulation of angiogenesis and vascular function. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:• Molecular mechanisms underlying angiogenic modulation by food components and nutraceuticals • Antiangiogenic and proangiogenic effects of natural compounds in cancer, inflammatory, metabolic, and cardiovascular diseases • Synergistic effects between nutraceuticals and conventional antiangiogenic therapies • Identification, characterization, and bioavailability of angiogenesis-modulating compounds from natural sources • Oxidative stress, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction as targets of nutraceutical interventions • Translational and clinical studies evaluating nutraceutical-based approaches in angiogenesis-related disorders We welcome Original Research articles, Reviews, Mini Reviews, Methods, Clinical Studies, and Case Reports. Manuscripts involving plant extracts or natural products should include detailed characterization of the study material, including composition, stability, chromatographic profiling, and purity assessment, in accordance with the best practice standards in natural product and ethnopharmacological research.
