Antibacterial Toxicology and Resistance in Agricultural Soils: Bridging Molecular Mechanisms and Field Management
Bacterial diseases represent one of the most severe threats to global agricultural productivity, causing substantial economic losses worldwide. Current control strategies rely heavily on traditional agents such as copper-based bactericides and antibiotics. However, prolonged application of these agents has led to a marked increase in bacterial resistance, while also posing irreversible risks to soil microbial diversity and environmental health. At present, novel bactericides specifically targeting bacterial diseases remain scarce. Therefore, the development of environmentally friendly bactericides - along with elucidation of their mechanisms of action and resistance risks, as well as evaluation of their application potential - has become an important research direction for the green control of bacterial diseases in agriculture. The goal of this Research Topic includes developing environmentally friendly bactericides, systematically elucidating their mechanisms of action and associated risks of resistance, and applying them for the green control of bacterial diseases in agriculture. This Research Topic will provide both theoretical and technical support for sustainable agricultural development. This Research Topic focuses on the toxicological effects of bactericides and the mechanisms of resistance dissemination in agricultural soils. It encompasses: (1) Development and application of novel bactericides.(2) Elucidation of the mechanisms of action and molecular basis of resistance to bactericides.(3) Molecular evolution, horizontal transfer, and functional characterization of resistance genes.(4) Ecotoxicity and non-target effects of novel bactericides on soil microbial communities.
