Applications of Telehealth in Clinical Neuropsychology and Geriatric Psychiatry
Advances in telehealth in recent years have prompted a rapid transformation in how neuropsychological and psychiatric services are being delivered. These developments have augmented traditional approaches, facilitating examination and remote access to neuropsychological and psychiatric assessment and intervention. Notably, this is beneficial for vulnerable individuals, such as the population of older adults. While this shift presents opportunities for optimizing neuropsychological and psychiatric care, significant challenges persist regarding the effectiveness, accessibility, and personalized application of telehealth modalities. Recent studies showcase digital platforms and artificial intelligence's potential in enhancing the quality and reach of neuropsychological and psychiatric services. However, discussion continues around their broader applicability and ethical considerations like access to physical examination, the ability of older adults to use modern technologies and privacy concerns. As such, there remains a need for rigorous investigation into these emerging interventions and outcomes. This Research Topic aims to explore the applications of telehealth in the field of neuropsychology and psychiatry, with a focus on remote cognitive testing, digital neuropsychological assessments, and psychiatric management of older adults. This collection welcomes original research, systematic reviews, and perspective articles that examine the feasibility, validity, and reliability of telehealth-based cognitive testing and assessment tools in the context of tele-psychiatric care of older adults. Contributions that address the development or validation of novel digital platforms and the efficacy of remote neuropsychological and psychiatric interventions across diverse populations are especially encouraged.Emerging topics of interest include the integration of artificial intelligence and digital biomarkers in remote assessments, ethical and practical challenges in telehealth delivery, and the impact of telehealth on patient access, health equity, and long-term outcomes in neuropsychological and psychiatric care. This Research Topic seeks to provide a comprehensive overview of current advances, identify future directions, and promote best practices in the application of telehealth in neuropsychology and psychiatry. Potential themes may include:• Remote administration of cognitive and neuropsychological assessments• Remote techniques of psychiatric assessment, treatment, and intervention• Validation of telehealth assessment tools and norm development• Digital therapeutics and rehabilitation interventions• Use of artificial intelligence and digital biomarkers in remote neuropsychological and psychiatric practice• Patient, caregiver, and clinician experiences and satisfaction with tele-neuropsychology and tele-psychiatry• Ethical, technical, and logistical considerations in digital neuropsychological and psychiatric service delivery• Access, equity, and cultural adaptation in telehealth neuropsychology and psychiatry Topic editors: DImitrios Kasselimis, Rigas Filippos Soldatos, Constantin Potagas, Antonios Politis, Maria Varkanitsa Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/71651/applications-of-telehealth-in-clinical-neuropsychology-and-geriatric-psychiatry
