Artificial Intelligence and Mobile Care Models in Critical Care and Anesthesia

This Research Topic focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) with mobile and distributed models of care in critical care and anesthesia. As critical care systems face increasing pressure from workforce shortages, rising complexity of care, and uneven resource distribution, mobile and digitally enabled solutions are becoming increasingly relevant. These include AI-supported clinical decision support systems, remote monitoring tools, wearable technologies, tele-critical care models, and mobile anesthesia or critical care teams designed to extend expertise beyond conventional unit-based boundaries. The Topic aims to explore how AI can support more timely, adaptive, and scalable care delivery across perioperative and critical care settings. Particular attention may be given to decision support in dynamic environments, triage and escalation systems, remote specialist input, wearable and physiological monitoring, and organizational models in which mobile teams or decentralized workflows improve access, efficiency, and patient outcomes. Submissions addressing implementation barriers, validation in real-world clinical contexts, interoperability, workflow integration, and equity of access are especially encouraged.By narrowing the focus to the intersection of AI-enabled decision support and mobile/distributed care delivery, this collection seeks to provide a coherent platform for clinically grounded innovations that may be both scientifically robust and operationally relevant.
