Biogeography and Paleoecology of Mesozoic-Cenozoic Faunas in Asia: Insights from Fossil Records

The study of biogeography and paleoecology during the Mesozoic-Cenozoic era provides essential insights into how past geological and environmental transformations have shaped the distribution and evolution of life forms in Asia. This period marks a time of significant tectonic shifts, climatic variations, and ecological changes, influencing both faunal and floral dynamics. A comprehension of the historical distribution patterns of these communities and their responses to environmental shifts is necessary for understanding contemporary biodiversity and evolution. Despite the rich fossil records, various questions remain about how these abiotic factors intricately affected transitional faunal assemblages and ecological networks. This Research Topic aims to delve deeply into the biogeographical and paleoecological patterns of ancient Asian faunas and floras, employing fossil records, molecular data, and stratigraphy as primary tools for exploration. By investigating these rich historical records, the research seeks to answer pressing questions regarding the extent to which tectonic activities and climatic oscillations influenced the evolutionary pathways and distributions of animal and plant communities in this pivotal region. In doing so, it also integrates cutting-edge paleontological and geochemical methodologies to propose hypotheses about ecosystem adaptations to past climate shifts. To gather further insights in understanding the Mesozoic-Cenozoic era's influence in Asia, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:-Tectonic impacts on faunal and floral distributions-Climate-related changes in paleoecological patterns-Molecular and fossil correlation studies-Stratigraphic evidence interpretations-Historical climate modeling of ecosystem responsesWe also welcome interdisciplinary articles using diverse methodologies that relate to these themes.
