Cardiovascular Nursing Innovations: Addressing Psychosocial Wellness and Social Determinants of Health
The field of cardiovascular nursing has rapidly evolved to recognize the interconnectedness of mental health, psychosocial support, and social determinants in shaping cardiovascular disease outcomes. Mounting evidence shows that individuals living with cardiovascular conditions often experience significant psychological burdens, including depression and anxiety, which can profoundly impact clinical prognosis and quality of life. Additionally, ongoing research highlights the influence of social isolation, economic inequalities, and broader societal stressors as critical contributors to disparities in disease risk, management, and recovery. However, despite an expanding research base and the emergence of holistic care models, significant gaps persist in the implementation of comprehensive strategies that jointly address mental, psychosocial, and social needs within routine nursing practice. This Research Topic aims to critically examine and advance the role of nursing in addressing the complex interface between cardiovascular health, mental well-being, and social context. We seek to gather diverse research that investigates evidence-based nursing interventions for mental health support, explores psychosocial care approaches tailored to diverse patient groups, and evaluates strategies to reduce the negative effects of adverse social determinants on cardiovascular outcomes. Key questions include: What are the most effective nursing models for integrating psychosocial and mental health care in cardiovascular populations? How can nurses act as change agents to reduce health inequities and improve holistic outcomes for underserved communities?Covering a broad perspective, this Research Topic welcomes contributions that explore both innovative and pragmatic approaches to cardiovascular nursing. While the scope is focused on adult and pediatric populations living with or at risk for cardiovascular disease, articles may address any stage across the care continuum. We welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:o Nursing interventions for screening and managing depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorders, and other mental health conditions in cardiovascular patientso Psychosocial assessment and support models for diverse patient groupso Approaches to mitigating social isolation and enhancing social connectednesso Strategies for nurses in addressing health equity and social determinants (e.g., poverty, education, housing)o Outcomes of integrated, nurse-led health promotion and intervention programso Policy, education, and workforce implications for holistic cardiovascular nursing care Topic editors: Christos D Lionis, Maddalena De Maria, Anthony William McGuire Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/81318/cardiovascular-nursing-innovations-addressing-psychosocial-wellness-and-social-determinants-of-health
