Case-based Advances in the Understanding of Rare and Unusual Hematologic Malignancies 2025-2026

Rare and orphan hematologic malignancies often present significant diagnostic and clinical management challenges due to their low prevalence, heterogeneity, and overlap with more common conditions. Detailed case reports play a vital role in bringing these disorders to light and can offer unique insight into the fundamental pathobiology and practical clinical diagnostic approach and treatments for these diseases. The goal of this research topic is to highlight the value of case reports in deepening our understanding of rare hematologic diseases. Case reports often highlight the application of novel technologies such as artificial intelligence, next generation sequencing, single-cell technologies, CRISPR-based approaches, or liquid biopsy. By collecting high-quality reports, we aim to advance diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic approaches to rare diseases ultimately improving patient care and research. We welcome Case Reports on themes including, but not limited to:- Unique or atypical clinical presentation of rare and orphan hematologic malignancies or mimickers- Diagnostic challenges and approaches in low prevalence hematologic malignancies- Application of novel technologies to improve recognition and management- Case based insights into the pathobiology, molecular mechanism or reclassification of rare hematologic disease entities- Therapeutic responses to emerging treatments which may include targeted and gene therapies- Educational perspectives that emphasize diagnostic reasoning and translational impactPlease note: manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or predictions of public databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent cohort or biological validation in vitro or in vivo) will not be accepted in any of the sections of Frontiers in Oncology.
