Case Reports in Cardiovascular Genetics and Systems Medicine: 2026
Cardiovascular genetics continues to advance through genomic sequencing, functional characterisation, and increasingly precise molecular tools. Yet many of the most instructive insights still come from individual patients — cases that reveal unexpected genotype-phenotype correlations, challenge established variant classifications, or uncover new presentations of known conditions. Well-documented case reports remain essential in this field, particularly where rare variants require real-world clinical evidence to move from uncertain to actionable. This Research Topic is the third volume in the ongoing annual series Case Reports in Cardiovascular Genetics and Systems Medicine, following the 2022 edition (https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/33174) and the 2024 edition (https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/65485). Together, these volumes serve as a growing repository of clinically and genetically instructive cases in the field. This collection gathers Case Reports submitted to the Cardiovascular Genetics and Systems Medicine section. Submissions to this collection will be personally assessed by the Specialty Chief Editor. We are looking for case Reports that highlight unique patient presentations with an unexpected diagnosis, treatment outcome, or clinical course. Specifically:1. Rare cases with typical features2. Frequent cases with atypical features3. Cases with a convincing response to new treatments, including single cases of off-label useOnly Case Reports that are original and meaningfully advance the field will be considered.Format requirements:• Maximum word count: 3,000 words• Title: Case Report: “area of focus”• Abstract• Introduction: what is unique about the case and relevant medical literature• Case description: de-identified patient information, relevant clinical findings, prior interventions and outcomes• A figure or table with a timeline of relevant data from the episode of care• Diagnostic assessment, therapeutic intervention, follow-up and outcomes, as specified in the CARE guidelines• Discussion: strengths, limitations, relevant literature, and take-away lessonsPatient perspectiveAuthors must obtain written informed consent from the patient or their legal representative prior to submission. A completed CARE checklist should be submitted as a supplementary file.
