Case Reports in Obstetrics 2026/2027

Obstetric care continues to advance rapidly through new imaging approaches, genomic and molecular methods, predictive modelling, and evolving medical and surgical therapies in pregnancy, labour, and the perinatal period. Yet individual patient cases still challenge established pathways, presenting with rare conditions, atypical symptom patterns, unexpected disease progression, or exceptional maternal and foetal outcomes. This Research Topic aims to publish high-quality Case Reports that offer practical insight into these uncommon or surprising clinical scenarios across pregnancy and maternal-foetal medicine. This collection is dedicated exclusively to obstetric case reports. Submissions focused on gynaecology will not be considered and should instead be directed to the companion Research Topic, Case Reports in Gynecology 2026/2027.Each accepted case report should function as an educational resource, demonstrating clinical reasoning, diagnostic strategy, multidisciplinary decision-making, and therapeutic intervention across the antenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum continuum. The scope is intentionally broad and includes, but is not limited to:• Diagnostic challenges in rare or atypical obstetric conditions, including unusual presentations or mimics across pregnancy and the puerperium• Innovative medical, surgical, or interventional approaches in obstetric care• Complications in obstetric procedures or intrapartum/peripartum care• Comorbidities (e.g., cardiometabolic, autoimmune, infectious, haematologic, or mental health conditions) affecting pregnancy trajectories and maternal outcomes• Imaging and technological advancements in prenatal diagnosis and maternal-foetal monitoring• Genomic, molecular, and translational methods to support prenatal diagnosis, risk stratification, and counselling• Foetal and intrapartum interventional therapies, and cases informing maternal-foetal management decisions• Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes, placental disorders, preterm birth, stillbirth, and other obstetric complications with unusual featuresIn alignment with the mission of the Obstetrics and Gynecology section of Frontiers in Medicine, this Research Topic supports progress toward SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
