Catalytic Conversion Processes for Sustainable Fuel Synthesis
Catalysis underpins modern fuel synthesis by improving reaction efficiency, reducing energy demand, and lowering production costs. Currently, global fossil fuel depletion and worsening environmental pressures have become pressing challenges, making the development of sustainable fuels a core focus of academic and industrial circles. To address these issues, research on catalytic technologies for sustainable fuel preparation, including biomass conversion, CO₂ utilization, and solid waste valorization, has become imperative to achieve energy sustainability and environmental protection. This Research Topic explores catalytic conversion processes for sustainable fuel synthesis, together with the enabling technologies and fundamental insights needed to advance the field. By bringing together this knowledge, this Research Topic aims to accelerate innovation and practical deployment of catalytic technologies for sustainable fuel production and to support the global transition to a lower-carbon energy system.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:• catalytic conversion of biomass (e.g., lignocellulose, agricultural and forestry residues) into liquid or gaseous fuels, enabling high-value utilization of renewable carbon resources• carbon dioxide capture and utilization for fuel synthesis, converting greenhouse gases into energy carriers such as methanol and synthetic natural gas in support of carbon-neutrality targets• catalytic valorization of solid wastes, especially waste plastics, into usable fuels, helping address waste pollution while expanding alternative fuel sources• catalyst design, synthesis, and modification• reaction engineering and process optimization• performance evaluation and stability.
