Clear Aligners: From Innovative Materials to Clinical Excellence

​Since their development, clear aligners have experienced an increasing diffusion as a treatment modality for adults and even growing subjects. After an initial overenthusiasm, clinicians and researchers are now focusing on the strengths and limitations of this novel orthodontic device. New materials are being proposed and studied, and innovations in the performance of clear aligner materials would undoubtedly be a significant breakthrough. On the other hand, new clinical protocols, the use of auxiliaries, and an improved case selection could dramatically increase the success rate of orthodontic treatment with clear aligners. The improvement of our knowledge of this instrument through sound scientific research would certainly improve our clinical outcomes.The goal of the present Research Topic is to collect excellent research on clear aligner materials, including new materials, novel manufacturing procedures, advanced knowledge on the properties of existing materials, and in-silico simulations that describe the interaction between the aligner material and the teeth.
