Climate Risk, Green Finance, and Investment for Sustainable Energy Systems

The transition to sustainable energy systems depends not only on technological progress but also on access to capital, effective risk management, and supportive financial and policy frameworks. Climate risk, financing conditions, and investment uncertainty can strongly influence the deployment of renewable energy, energy storage, grid modernization, and other low-carbon energy infrastructure. At the same time, green finance instruments and de-risking mechanisms are expanding, yet more work is needed to understand how they support real-world energy deployment, system resilience, and long-term transition outcomes.Goal:This Research Topic aims to gather high-quality research on how climate risk, green finance, and investment frameworks shape the deployment, performance, and resilience of sustainable energy systems. We welcome contributions that improve understanding of the financial barriers and enablers affecting clean energy investment and that provide evidence relevant to energy system planning, policy, and implementation.Scope and information for Authors:We welcome original research, reviews, perspectives, and policy-oriented studies related to sustainable energy systems. Topics may include the following:• Climate risk, uncertainty, and cost of capital for renewable energy, energy storage, grid infrastructure, and electrification• Green bonds, blended finance, public policy support, and other financial mechanisms that enable sustainable energy deployment• Investment barriers, market design, and regulatory frameworks affecting the scale-up and resilience of low-carbon energy systems• Empirical, modeling, and comparative studies linking financial conditions to energy system outcomes such as deployment, reliability, affordability, and decarbonization Topic editors: Lewis Liu, Nurhastuty Wardhani Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/80705/climate-risk-green-finance-and-investment-for-sustainable-energy-systems
