Clinical Management and Care Integration in Pediatric Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune endocrine condition requiring lifelong insulin therapy and continuous metabolic regulation. Achieving stable glycemic control during childhood and adolescence is essential to reduce acute events and long-term complications, while also supporting continuity of care into early adulthood. Despite advances in insulin delivery and glucose monitoring technologies, their clinical benefit depends on consistent and effective use across care settings.Management of pediatric Type 1 diabetes extends beyond specialist clinics into everyday environments such as home, school, and primary care. As children gain independence, coordination between care providers becomes increasingly important. The transition to adult services represents a critical period where gaps in care may affect glycemic control and clinical outcomes. Strengthening integration across clinical teams and community settings is therefore key to improving endocrine management and reducing disparities. This Research Topic welcomes clinically oriented studies that examine how integrated care approaches can support glycemic stability, reduce complication risk, and improve disease management in pediatric Type 1 diabetes, including during the transition to adult services. We welcome submissions addressing, but not limited to:- Approaches to improving glycemic outcomes through coordination between paediatric endocrine teams and community-based settings such as schools and primary care - Care pathways supporting continuity during the transition from paediatric to adult diabetes services - Real-world use and clinical optimization of insulin therapies and glucose monitoring technologies - Clinical implementation of continuous glucose monitoring, automated insulin delivery, and remote care approaches - Strategies for early identification, monitoring, and ongoing clinical management of Type 1 diabetes across care settings - Studies examining how access to endocrine care influences glycemic control, treatment adherence, and complication risk - The impact of social, behavioral, and demographic factors on disease management and inequalities in care - Multidisciplinary and patient- or family-centered care approaches in pediatric diabetes management - Interventions aimed at reducing acute metabolic events such as severe hypoglycemia and diabetic ketoacidosis Topic editors: Christine A March, Margaret Zupa Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/80811/clinical-management-and-care-integration-in-pediatric-type-1-diabetes
