Clinical Management and Diagnostic Advancements in Pheochromocytoma and Paraganglioma
Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGL) are rare neuroendocrine tumors that present unique clinical challenges due to their heterogeneous genetic backgrounds, biochemical profiles, and potential for malignancy. In recent years, the field has experienced remarkable advancements, particularly in understanding hereditary forms, novel diagnostic approaches, and therapeutic strategies. These developments are underscored by evolving insights into the molecular mechanisms driving tumorigenesis, allowing for the refinement of clinical classification and risk evaluation. Despite such progress, a persistent delay in diagnosis and variability in clinical management remain evident, highlighting ongoing gaps between research advancements and standard clinical practice. This Research Topic aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current landscape in PPGL management, with a focus on translating emerging scientific advancements into actionable clinical strategies. Specific objectives include evaluating the integration of new molecular diagnostics into daily practice, elucidating the role of genetics in patient risk assessment and treatment planning, and reviewing the impact of recent therapeutic innovations on clinical outcomes. By synthesizing state-of-the-art developments, this work seeks to address crucial questions about bridging knowledge gaps and improving patient-centered care in the context of this rare disease. To gather further insights into the current boundaries and advancing clinical PPGL management, we welcome Original Research and Review articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Recent advances in PPGL diagnostic methodology and their clinical relevance• Comprehensive review of hereditary genetics and its implications for screening and management• Innovations in biochemical profiling, including catecholamines and metanephrines• Strategies for the timely identification and management of metastatic and malignant PPGL• Integration of molecular and genomic insights into contemporary treatment pathways• Review of existing clinical guidelines and areas for improvement in day-to-day practice Topic editors: Vitaly Kantorovich, Christian Albert Koch Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/77945/clinical-management-and-diagnostic-advancements-in-pheochromocytoma-and-paraganglioma
