Cognitive Interactions and Movement Adaptations - Volume II

This Research Topic investigates the dynamic interplay between cognitive functions and motor performance, with a particular focus on how cognitive processes influence motor capabilities during ambulatory activities and how aging affects motor planning. As the global population ages, understanding the mechanisms of cognitive-motor interference and the adaptability of the human motor system becomes crucial. Current research highlights growing concerns about maintaining motor stability in older adults and the need for innovative approaches to mitigate age-related declines in motor function. Our main objective is to deepen the understanding of how cognitive and motor domains interact, especially as individuals age. We aim to reveal the underlying mechanisms of cognitive-motor interference and to explore how aging modifies motor planning and execution capacities. Ultimately, the goal is to identify practical applications and interventions that can support enhanced motor performance in everyday environments and particularly aid those in older demographic segments who may face increased challenges. To gather further insights into these areas, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:- Variations in Motor Planning: Studies on age-related changes and strategies to mitigate these effects.- Cognitive Strategies: Research on how cognitive tactics can optimize motor performance under various conditions.- Intervention Development: Innovations and evaluations of interventions aimed at reducing cognitive-motor interference.- Comparative Analyses: Investigations comparing motor capabilities among different age groups and between populations with or without motor impairments. This comprehensive approach aims to advance our understanding of cognitive influences on motor functions and introduce novel strategies to enhance motor stability and performance throughout the aging process.
