Cohort-based Prognostic Analysis Research in Coronary Heart Disease and/or Heart Failure

Coronary heart disease and heart failure remain major causes of morbidity, mortality, and healthcare burden worldwide. When these conditions coexist, the risk of adverse outcomes, including rehospitalization and death, increases further, creating an important challenge for patients, clinicians, and healthcare systems. Although treatment has improved, important questions remain about how to best assess prognosis and stratify risk across routine care settings and diverse populations. Cohort-based prognostic research is essential for identifying patients at highest risk and for improving the clinical usefulness of risk assessment in practice. This Research Topic aims to address current gaps in prognostic evaluation for patients with coronary heart disease and/or heart failure by focusing on evidence generated from longitudinal cohorts and real world clinical populations. Particular emphasis will be placed on the clinical relevance of prognostic factors and performance (discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility), internal and external validation of risk models across different healthcare settings and patient groups. Rather than centering on emerging technologies alone, this topic seeks to strengthen the evidence base for risk stratification in everyday cardiovascular care.We welcome studies that evaluate prognostic markers, clinical indicators, and risk models in well characterized cohorts, with a focus on long term outcomes and applicability in practice. Biomarkers, imaging variables, and computational methods may be included when they are examined within a broader prognostic framework and when their added value is assessed in relation to established clinical models. The overall goal is to support more reliable risk stratification, better individualized management, and improved decision making for patients with coronary heart disease and/or heart failure.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:• Identification of prognostic risk factors for outcomes in coronary heart disease and heart failure;• Development, validation, recalibration, and updating of prediction models;• External validation and transportability of prediction models across populations and care settings;• Comparative evaluation of existing cardiovascular risk scores in routine practice;• Clinical usefulness and implementation of prognostic tools in real world cohorts;• Prognosis in specific populations, including older adults, patients with multiple long-term conditions (multimorbidity), underrepresented groups, and comparisons between men and women;• Rehospitalization, mortality, and other long term outcomes in coronary heart disease and heart failure cohorts;• Incremental prognostic value of biomarkers, imaging findings, or computational approaches when assessed within established clinical frameworks.
