Colloidal Nanostructures: Sustainable Design and Application For Environmental Remediation
Colloidal nanostructures have emerged as a rapidly evolving field in nanoscience, offering powerful tools to address pressing environmental challenges through controlled synthesis and targeted applications. Recent advances in the fabrication of colloidal nanoparticles, including metal oxides and doped composites, have demonstrated remarkable potential in pollutant degradation, water purification, and antimicrobial activity. Despite significant progress, challenges persist in achieving scalable, environmentally friendly production methods and in fully understanding the physicochemical interactions driving their remediation efficiency. Studies continue to explore how composition, surface modification, and colloidal stability influence the catalytic and functional behaviors of nanostructures under varying environmental conditions. However, sustainable synthetic pathways and a deeper comprehension of structure–property relationships remain essential to bridge laboratory success with large-scale environmental applications. This Research Topic aims to promote a comprehensive examination of sustainable strategies in the synthesis, characterization, and deployment of colloidal nanostructures for environmental remediation. It seeks to address key questions such as: How can eco-friendly synthesis routes be optimized to reduce environmental impact? What factors dictate the performance and stability of doped nanostructures in real-world remediation systems? And to what extent can multifunctional nanoparticles simultaneously mitigate pollution and control pathogens? Through the integration of materials science, environmental chemistry, and nanotechnology, the Research Topic aspires to inspire innovative, scalable solutions aligned with global sustainability goals. The scope of this Research Topic encompasses interdisciplinary contributions spanning the design, development, and evaluation of colloidal nanomaterials for environmental protection.
