Community Series in Unveiling the Next Generation of Cancer Immunity & Immunotherapy in Lung Cancer: Volume III

This Research Topic is the third volume of the “Unveiling the Next Generation of Cancer Immunity & Immunotherapy in Lung Cancer” Community Series. Please see Volume I here and Volume II hereDespite progress in immune checkpoint blockade, lung cancer—particularly non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC)—continues to challenge researchers with variable response rates, therapy resistance, and the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. The development of novel approaches such as CAR T cells, bispecific T cell engagers (BiTEs), immune-modulating cytokines, and rational combination therapies is redefining how we tackle these obstacles. This third volume aims to showcase the latest, most impactful developments specifically within lung cancer immunotherapy, emphasizing translational science, personalized treatment strategies, and new technologies poised to revolutionize patient outcomes. We welcome research that advances the understanding of lung cancer immunity, identifies resistance mechanisms, and contributes to the clinical success of next-generation immunotherapies.By consolidating research and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, this Research Topic aims to accelerate breakthroughs that can meaningfully impact the treatment landscape for lung cancer patients worldwide. We welcome Original Research, Reviews, Mini-Reviews, Case Reports, Methods, and Perspective articles that include, but are not limited to, the following topics:• Novel immunotherapeutic strategies tailored to NSCLC and SCLC, including BiTEs, CAR T cells, oncolytic viruses, and tumor vaccines.• Translational and clinical studies on the efficacy and safety of lung cancer immunotherapies, especially in hard-to-treat or biomarker-defined subgroups (e.g., EGFR/ALK-positive).• Mechanisms of immune evasion and resistance in lung cancer, and approaches to reverse these processes.• Biomarker discovery and validation to predict or monitor response to immunotherapy in lung cancer.• Combination immunotherapy regimens, including ICIs plus chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, or cell-based treatments.• Strategies to remodel the tumor microenvironment and enhance immune cell infiltration and function in lung tumors.• Preclinical models and methods that improve our understanding or testing of immunotherapies in lung cancer.• Ethical, regulatory, and accessibility considerations in the development and delivery of lung cancer immunotherapies.Manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics or computational analysis of public genomic or transcriptomic databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent cohort or biological validation in vitro or in vivo) are out of scope for this section and will not be accepted as part of this Research Topic.
