Cyberpsychology and Social Dynamics in the Connected World Volume II

Volume I of this Research Topic here attracted outstanding interest from the research community, with submissions arriving at a pace that filled its capacity ahead of schedule. Given this response, the submission window for Volume I has closed early, and we are launching Volume II to continue welcoming the high-quality contributions this topic continues to generate. The field of Cyberpsychology and Media Psychology investigates how human behaviour, subjectivities, and social relationships are shaped within digitally connected environments. As societies become increasingly dependent on algorithm-driven platforms and artificial intelligence, new questions emerge regarding how emotions, identities, and interpersonal bonds are constructed and negotiated online. Recent studies have demonstrated the growing complexity of social interactions on digital platforms, highlighting both positive opportunities for community-building and concerning patterns of exclusion, misinformation, and algorithmic bias. Despite vibrant developments, significant gaps persist in the integration of current psychological theory, methodological innovation, and ethical practices, especially regarding the effects of technology on justice, diversity, and inclusion in digital spaces. This Research Topic aims to establish a rigorous and critical forum for advancing understanding of technology-mediated social interactions through the lens of Cyberpsychology and Media Psychology. It seeks to address how digital platforms, algorithmic systems, and AI-driven interfaces influence social processes, relationships, group identities, and emotional exchanges. A primary objective is to generate actionable knowledge to reduce digital inequalities and combat online violence by centering digital social justice, accessibility, and inclusion in both research and intervention. Additionally, the Research Topic is committed to elevating methodological standards, promoting best practices in data governance, transparency, and ethics and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue that explores how race, gender, sexuality, class, and territoriality shape digital experiences. This Research Topic is limited to studies focused on psychological and psychosocial processes mediated by digital technologies, with special emphasis on social interactions shaped by algorithms, platforms, and AI applications. It invites both theoretical and empirical work, with considerations of diversity, ethics, and social justice as fundamental aspects. To gather further insights in this area, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Psychological dynamics of online social interactions• Impact of algorithms and AI on identity, behaviour, and inclusion• Digital inequalities, accessibility, and strategies for digital social justice• Methodological innovations for digital research: data governance, transparency, and ethics• Intersections of race, gender, sexuality, class, and territory in digital environments• Applications for health, education, work, and public policy in digital societiesAppendix: Article types accepted include empirical articles (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods), methodological and theoretical studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, theoretical, critical, and epistemological essays, case studies, and experience reports.
