Deciphering Immune–Cardiovascular Disease Interactions: Multi-Omics Integration and Biomarker Discovery
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is increasingly recognized as a major complication of immune dysregulation and infectious processes that perturb host defense and homeostatic mechanisms. Evidence indicates that microbial exposure, chronic inflammation, and altered immune signaling collectively influence the initiation and progression of CVDs, including atherosclerosis, myocarditis, endocarditis, and heart failure. While clinical immunology and infection microbiology have advanced our understanding of host–pathogen dynamics, the diagnostic resolution of immune-mediated cardiovascular disorders remains limited. Emerging multi-omics studies reveal that immune cell activation signatures, microbial metabolites, and inflammatory mediators serve as potential biomarkers of cardiovascular dysfunction, yet their diagnostic and prognostic applications are not fully established. This Research Topic aims to elucidate the immunological and microbial pathways that contribute to cardiovascular disease through integrated multi-omics and translational diagnostic approaches. The core objective is to connect immune dysfunction and microbial influences with clinical outcomes, bridging basic immunopathology and diagnostic innovation. We particularly encourage studies that apply genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, or microbiomics to define molecular interactions underlying immune-mediated cardiopathies. Submissions that introduce or validate new immunological or serological markers, explore infectious triggers of cardiovascular disease, or evaluate diagnostic strategies integrating immune and microbial readouts are highly encouraged. Ultimately, this Research Topic seeks to foster precision approaches for prevention, early detection, and targeted management of immune–cardiovascular disorders. To gather further insights into the diagnostic and mechanistic landscape of immune-mediated cardiovascular disease, we welcome contributions addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:- Immunopathogenesis of infection-associated cardiovascular disease- Development and validation of immunological and microbial biomarkers for early diagnosis or prognosis of CVD- Multi-omics integration for molecular characterization of immune dysregulation in CVD- Autoimmunity, chronic inflammation, and cardiovascular risk assessment- Application of serological, histocompatibility, and cytokine profiling tools in cardiovascular diagnostics- Role of microbial metabolites and systemic infections in modulating immune–cardiovascular interactions- Translational pipelines bridging immune diagnostics and precision cardiovascular medicine Topic editors: Jake J Wen, Yukang Mao, Renu Nandakumar Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/83549/deciphering-immune-cardiovascular-disease-interactions-multi-omics-integration-and-biomarker-discovery
