Decision-Support for Sustainable Energy Systems: Optimization, Techno-Economic Assessment, and Energy Equity
In light of the increasing decentralization, integration, and resource constraint of energy systems, there is an urgent need for effective assessment of renewable energy technologies combinations, hybrid energy systems, energy storage solutions, agricultural resource management, and sustainable supply chains from both a technical and socio-economic perspective. This Research Topic focuses on decision-support techniques for sustainable energy systems planning, evaluation, and optimization; green supply chains management; and applications of water-energy-food nexus.Furthermore, in addition to the system performance and feasibility issues, the clean energy revolution needs to tackle additional concerns such as energy poverty, energy justice, energy resource availability, and energy, water, and food service provision for all. Sustainable and green supply chains have become essential in today’s world as contemporary supply chain practices are based on three key principles – social responsibility, environmental protection, and economic sustainability. Therefore, this Research Topic calls for contributions that would advance sustainable energy systems planning and supply chains management, and enhance decision making regarding water-energy-food resource allocation.Goal:The goal of this Research Topic is to gather original research and practical insights that advance the optimization, modeling, and assessment of sustainable energy systems. We aim to highlight decision-support methods, techno-economic and environmental evaluation frameworks, and studies that improve the resilience, affordability, and fairness of clean energy transitions.Scope and information for Authors:We welcome focused contributions that support the planning, evaluation, and transformation of sustainable energy, resource, and supply chain systems. Topics can include:• Optimization and modeling of renewable, hybrid, and integrated energy systems• Techno-economic and environmental assessment of sustainable energy technologies and supply chains• Green and sustainable supply chain management in energy, water, recycling, and circular economy applications• Water–energy–food nexus approaches in agriculture and resource-constrained systems• Sustainability indicators, trade-offs, and synergies in agricultural and production systems• Energy poverty, energy equity, affordability, and accessibility in clean energy transitions• Decision-support methods for resilient energy planning, investment evaluation, resource management, and sustainable development pathways Topic editors: Christiana Michail Papapostolou, Sofoklis Makridis Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/81338/decision-support-for-sustainable-energy-systems-optimization-techno-economic-assessment-and-energy-equity
