Design, Synthesis, and Functionalization of Porous Organic Frameworks for Solar-driven Photocatalysis Applications

The global energy demand and growing severity of environmental pollution are among the significant challenges facing modern society. Rising fossil fuel consumption contributes not only to the depletion of finite resources but also to considerable emissions of greenhouse gases and hazardous pollutants, which has motivated the development of sustainable and cleaner technologies. Solar-driven photocatalysis has been considered a promising and environmentally friendly approach. This can be accomplished by converting sunlight into chemical energy conversion, and for the degradation of organic pollutants under mild conditions.Recent advances have demonstrated the potential of porous organic frameworks-based photocatalysts for photocatalytic applications such as water splitting, CO2 reduction, H2O2 production, ammonia synthesis, organic transformations, and pollutant degradation. However, several challenges remain, including limited visible-light utilization, rapid charge recombination, insufficient mechanistic understanding, and scalability issues. This Research Topic intends to establish design principles for novel porous organic frameworks photocatalysts, bridging rational synthesis with mechanistic understanding. This collection encourages scientists to develop functionalized porous organic frameworks for energy conversion and pollutant transformation. The ultimate goal is to advance both fundamental understanding and practical strategies for solar-driven energy conversion and environmental remediation using porous organic framework photocatalysts. This Research Topic is an international and interdisciplinary forum on valuable issues facing the application of porous organic frameworks and photocatalytic processes for energy conversion and environmental remediation.
