Digital Health Solutions for Public Health Emergencies and Chronic Disease Management
Digital health interventions are rapidly reshaping public health field for tackling crises and related emergencies. Notable advancements are being made in incorporating novel techniques including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) to increase the efficiency and impact of such solutions globally. Despite this rapid evolution, knowledge translation is embryonic as to their broader influence on global public health systems. This Research Topic is focused on contributing to the gap in knowledge, exploring the wide array of digital health solutions, their application, impact, and potential use in responding to public health emergencies and influencing public health policy. The aim of this Research Topic is to understand how digital health solutions can be better integrated into public health infrastructures to contribute to preventing crises and efficiently frame public health policy decisions. It will explore real-world applications, their reach, impact, and methods of delivery in assisting crisis preparedness and response. We propose to assess contextual (local, regional, global) challenges and opportunities in deployment so that they can be leveraged to strengthen public health systems during crises and inform better policy decisions. We welcome articles that exploring (but not limited to) the following themes: 1. Real-world applications of digital health solutions (integrating SaaS, SaMD, Sensors, AI, Mobile apps, blockchain, IoT etc) 2. Challenges and solutions for embedding digital health solutions into public health infrastructures and policy 3. Understanding public health policy implications for deployment of digital health technologies (including AI) in ongoing crises (including chronic disease management) in local (country/jurisdictions), regional, and global contexts 4. Telehealth and telemedicine methods in tackling emergencies, crisis preparedness, and public health emergencies The integration of digital health solutions in response to public health emergencies presents a vital opportunity to enhance preparedness for future crises and ongoing chronic disease management. As we continue to explore their potential, this Research Topic invites contributions that will deepen our understanding and help forge pathways to integrate novel solutions in public health. We hope to inspire collaborations that will drive transformative changes in the way public health challenges are approached and managed and become tools to inform policy.Topic Editor Chandana Unnithan is Chief Scientific Officer for Lifeguard Digital Health Inc.
