Digital Technology in Pediatric Endocrinology
The practice of pediatric endocrinology is evolving rapidly through the integration of digital technologies. While digital tools have gained significant traction in managing paediatric diabetes, their application across the wider spectrum of endocrine disorders, such as growth disorders, thyroid dysfunction, pubertal anomalies, adrenal conditions, and rare genetic syndromes, remains an area of emerging innovation. Technological advances in imaging analysis, hormone monitoring, decision-support systems, and telemedicine are beginning to reshape diagnostic precision, disease monitoring, and personalized care strategies in this complex and sensitive field. Given the long-term nature of many endocrine conditions diagnosed in childhood, there is a pressing need to explore how digital health solutions can improve continuity of care and developmental outcomes throughout adolescence and beyond. This Research Topic aims to investigate the role of digital technologies in advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and management of pediatric endocrine disorders. We aim to highlight how these tools can address clinical challenges such as delayed recognition of hormonal dysfunction, suboptimal treatment monitoring, limited specialist access, and low adherence to long-term therapies. The goal is to showcase innovative approaches and critically evaluate their effectiveness, usability, and impact across the diverse landscape of paediatric endocrinology, extending well beyond diabetes, to support a future of more precise, proactive, and patient-centered endocrine care.We welcome submissions that explore digital applications across a broad range of pediatric endocrine conditions and clinical contexts, including but not limited to:• Digital tools for diagnosing and monitoring growth hormone deficiency, precocious or delayed puberty, and other pubertal disorders• Technology-assisted management of congenital adrenal hyperplasia, hypothyroidism, and other adrenal or thyroid conditions• Artificial intelligence and machine learning in paediatric endocrine imaging and predictive modelling• Use of digital platforms to support the care of children with rare endocrine syndromes and genetic growth disorders• Remote hormone monitoring systems and digital biomarkers in pediatric endocrinology• Tele-endocrinology models for improved access to subspecialty careBy bringing together cross-disciplinary perspectives, this Research Topic aims to deepen our understanding of how digital technologies can be responsibly and effectively leveraged to support young patients with a wide range of endocrine conditions, ultimately promoting better lifelong endocrine health.
